Apple launched a completely revamped Apple Watch Series 10 on Monday at the ‘It’s Glowtime’ event at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.
According to Apple, the Apple Watch Series 10 is thinner than ever and features the biggest, most advanced display yet.
The latest features, such as new sleep apnea notifications, faster charging, water depth and temperature sensing, and new health and fitness insights and intelligence in watchOS 11, make it a more powerful, intelligent, and sophisticated device.
“Around the world, Apple Watch has had an immeasurable positive impact on people by helping them stay healthy, active, safe, and connected to the things that matter to them — and it’s helped save countless lives along the way,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer.
“Apple Watch Series 10 builds on a decade of breakthrough innovations to offer the most advanced version yet, with even more intelligence, our biggest wearable display, and a design that’s slimmer and sleeker than ever.”
Apple claims the new Apple Watch Series 10 has the largest screen area, offering up to 30 percent more active screen area than any Apple Watch.
It comes in two new sizes, 42mm and 46mm, and features a 40% brighter wide-angle OLED screen with a wider aspect ratio than its predecessor when viewed at angles.
It also has 2000 nits of peak brightness levels. The larger screen area improves readability and usability in apps like Messages, Mail, or News, with an additional line of text on display.
Further, the new chassis design is 9.7mm in thickness, making it 10% thinner and lighter than the Apple Watch Series 9.
The watch also boasts a new Polished Titanium finish that replaces the stainless steel option, which makes it almost 20 percent lighter than the Apple Watch Series 9.
It has a redesigned metal back that integrates the antenna into the housing, thereby enhancing cellular performance.
The Apple Watch Series includes the new S10 SiP (System in Package) with a built-in four-core Neural Engine (Neural Processing Unit), which improves the performance of many machine learning-based features, including the double tap gesture, on-device Siri, dictation, activity tracking, and important safety features such as Crash Detection and Fall Detection.
Using the new Neural Engine, Apple has introduced a new “Voice Isolation” feature to suppress background noise during phone or FaceTime audio calls made from the Apple Watch.
The watch now also supports audio playback through the built-in speaker, which users can use to listen to audio from a range of apps, including Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple Books, and third-party apps.
In terms of health-related features, Apple has added the Sleep Apnea notification feature to the Apple Watch Series 10, which is intended to detect signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea for people 18 years old or older without a diagnosis of sleep apnea.
It will track key overnight metrics such as heart rate, respiratory rate, and wrist temperature to detect symptoms of Sleep Apnea.
However, this feature is pending FDA clearance and is expected to be available later this month.
The Apple Watch Series 10 also includes a new Depth Gauge, water temperature sensor, and Tides app, which makes the watch an even better companion when users are headed into the water.
Its water resistance rating is 50 meters, which means it may be used for shallow-water activities like snorkeling or swimming in a pool or ocean.
Further, the Series 10 features a larger and more efficient charging coil, making it the fastest-charging Apple Watch ever.
It can charge up to 80 percent battery in about 30 minutes. Also, 15 minutes of charging provides up to 8 hours of normal daily use or 8 minutes of charging powers up to 8 hours of sleep tracking.
The Apple Watch Series 10 is available in aluminium and titanium case and will be available in Jet Black, Silver Aluminium, and Rose Gold color variants.
It is now available for pre-order, starting at $399 for the GPS version and $499 for the GPS + Cellular, with shipments beginning on Friday, September 20. The Apple Watch Series 10 will come pre-installed with watchOS 11, which will be available on September 16.
In addition to the Apple Watch Series 10, the company also unveiled its two entry-level models, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, its premium flagship smartphones, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, and AirPods 4.
