Apple Launches iPhone 16 Pro And iPhone 16 Pro Max

Apple launched its most advanced Pro line-up ever, the iPhone 16 series, the iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, during the ‘It’s Glowtime’ event hosted at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California, on Monday.

Both handsets come with larger display sizes, new creative capabilities with innovative pro camera features, stunning graphics for immersive gaming, and more—all powered by the A18 Pro chip.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max:

Design And Display

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models feature a strong yet lightweight titanium design and the largest iPhone display ever. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are equipped with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch OLED Super Retina XDR OLED displays, respectively, with Always-On and ProMotion technologies.

Further, they come with a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 2,000nits peak brightness, and Apple’s latest Ceramic Shield protection, which is twice as tough as glass on any other smartphone. Also, the new mechanical architecture enhances heat dissipation and efficiency for up to 20 percent better-sustained performance.

Processor

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max feature a new A18 Pro chip, which Apple claims is its “fastest chipset yet.” It is built with second-generation 3-nanometer technology and has a new 16-core neural engine for on-device processing of Apple Intelligence features, which is due as a free update in the coming months.

With two performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, the new 6-core CPU is up to 15 percent faster while using 20 percent less power than last year’s models. Further, a 17 percent increase in total system memory bandwidth benefits the new 6-core GPU, which is up to 20 percent faster than the previous generation.

Camera

Both iPhone 16 Pro models feature an upgraded 48MP “Fusion” camera with a second-generation quad-pixel sensor. This camera is capable of recording 4K video in Dolby Vision at 120 frames per second (fps) in video mode or slo-mo.

They also have a second 48MP ultra-wide camera with a more advanced quad-pixel sensor for super-high-resolution 48MP ProRAW and HEIF photos with autofocus.

Further, they also have a 12MP 5x tetraprism telephoto camera with a 120mm focal length for shooting sharper close-ups from farther away.

The iPhone 16 Max and iPhone Pro Max models have a 12MP TrueDepth camera on the front for FaceTime, Face ID, and capturing selfies.

Camera Control

The iPhone 16 line-up now includes a new “Camera Control” button located on the right side of the iPhone under the power button. Built with a force sensor and touch sensor to support different gestures, it lets you take the perfect photo or video in record time.

For instance, if you want to adjust camera functions like exposure or depth of field, you can simply slide your finger through each lens or use digital zoom to frame your shot. Similarly, clicking the camera control button launches the Camera app, and clicking it again instantly takes a photo.

Further, in video mode, clicking the camera control button starts recording, while a light press opens controls like zoom. With a double light press, you can choose another camera setting and then slide to adjust that setting.

Apple also plans to introduce a two-stage shutter in Camera Control for focus and exposure-locking, later this year.

Battery

Powered by the A18 Pro chipset, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models promise the longest battery life ever, although Apple has not revealed the exact figures. However, there are claims that iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max can provide up to 27 and 33 hours of video playback on a single charge.

Further, these models can be charged at 27W using a compatible charger or at 15W using a MagSafe or Qi2-compatible wireless charging adapter.

Connectivity

On the connectivity front, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models support 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth, NFC, and GPS connectivity, along with a USB 3.0 Type-C port.

Other Features

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max devices are dual SIM (U.S.: eSIM, Worldwide: Nano + eSIM). They are splash, water, and dust resistant with an IP68 rating (maximum depth of 6 meters up to 30 minutes). Both models will feature Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 18, which will be available as a free software update on Monday, September 16.

Also, Apple is offering three free months of Apple Music, Apple Arcade, and Apple Fitness+ with a new subscription for customers who purchase iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max devices.

Pricing And Availability

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models will be available in four color options: Black Titanium, Natural Titanium, White Titanium, and Desert Titanium, with storage capacities of 128GB (iPhone 16 Pro only), 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.
